Community First Banking Company employees pay to wear jeans on Fridays and, each quarter, choose a charity to support with the proceeds raised. For the fourth quarter of 2023, bank staff chose to contribute to the Hammond Mill Camp Capital Improvement Campaign with a donation of $1,000. The capital improvement fundraising campaign kicked off in 2023 in celebration of the camp’s 75th anniversary. Hammond Mill Camp is located west of West Plains on CC Highway and offers a place for summer youth camps, weddings and family reunions. Operated by a board of directors, the camp has seen facility upgrades over the last year. Work continues as the camp moves toward its $160,000 fundraising goal. Deputy: Man charged with felonies after threatening woman with gun in presence of children

A Caulfield resident has been charged after allegedly threatening a family member and fleeing from law enforcement while armed with a handgun. At least part of the altercation was witnessed by five children who were in the home at the time, and the gun was left loaded and within reach of the children as the suspect ran from deputies, according to court documents. more

The Current River Caller’s chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) presented its 2024 scholarship at the Hunting Heritage Banquet held Jan. 20. Hailey Michel was present to receive the scholarship of $500. “Hailey is a senior at Summersville High school and is an outstanding student in her class and in the community,” said organization officials. “She also has a great love of the outdoors and hunting and believes it is important to preserve this heritage for future generations.” The scholarship is set up to ensure the NWTF has the dedicated conservationists needed in the future. Applicants for the scholarship are judged on their scholastic achievements, leadership abilities, community involvement and commitment to conservation. Michel’s application will be submitted to the state for a chance to win at least $1,000 in additional scholarship money. State winners then have a chance at the national scholarship worth $10,000.

The Mtn. View Garden Club sponsored three Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster contest winners from Mtn. View Elementary school in 2022, who went on to compete in the Central Region contest. Mtn. View Garden Club members are expressing their gratitude to the Liberty Branch of West Plains Bank and Trust Company for a recent donation. The club works on projects year-round, including planting hundreds of spring flowers around Mtn. View city gardens, donating over 1,000 daffodil bulbs to local schools and putting together the evergreen swags to decorate the city during the holidays. West Plains Bank and Trust’s $200 donation helps make the club’s projects possible, said members. The Mtn. View Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri and the Central Region Garden Clubs.
