Captain D's of West Plains and the Stokes family have been supporters of Cystic Fibrosis of West Plains fundraising efforts for many years, and this year contributed $2,500 for research into treatments and cures for the genetic condition. Cystic fibrosis affects the respiratory and digestive systems of sufferers, resulting in lifelong treatment of symptoms, and the donation was the result of a recent fundraising day at Captain D's, when proceeds of food sales were given to the cause. Recently-retired West Plains Police Chief Stephen Monticelli, center, was recognized at Monday night's city council meeting by Mayor Mike Topliff, left, and City Administrator Sam Anselm. City officials thanked Monticelli for his years of service and presented him with a plaque commemorating them. Monticelli had been police chief since 2018 and his career included 32 years combined with the University Of Missouri and Columbia police departments and six years as police chief in Harrisonburg, Va.
