Thanksgiving morning dawned crisp and clear in West Plains as over 130 people laced up their running shoes to take part in the St. Jude Re-Run Turkey Trot at Zizzer Stadium. With an open invitation to walk, jog or run a 1-mile or 5K route, the event offered participants a chance to kick off the holiday in a healthy, community-minded way while supporting a worthy cause. The turnout was the largest the Turkey Trot has seen in West Plains in recent years, bringing together well over 100 participants, from seasoned runners to families with strollers. The event raised $2,500 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee. The funds will go toward providing life-saving care for children and supporting families facing medical challenges. “This is what Thanksgiving is all about,” one participant said, smiling. “Coming together, doing something positive, and giving back.”

West Plains High School Athletics Director Dr.Ashley Cooley was recently named Newcomer of the Year for 2024-25 in the Southwest Missouri District. The honor was given by the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA), and will be formally recognized by the MIAAA in the spring. West Plains R-7 Schools Superintendent Dr. Wes Davis and the school board wasted no time in recognizing Cooley's achievement and an award was presented to her at Tuesday night's regular monthly meeting. It was presented to her by School Board President Cindy Tyree, at left, who also happens to be Cooley's mom.

Third place winner Augie Wake, Glenwood School; second place winner Tripp Harrison, Junction Hill School; and first place winner Max Mansfield, Howell Valley School.
