The Howell County Commission and Sheriff Matt Roberts signed a proclamation Monday designating April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The initiative aims to reduce sexual violence through public education, survivor recovery services and law enforcement support for investigations and prosecutions. According to the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, programs supporting victims helped 4,781 individuals last year, though 1,245 requests for assistance went unmet. Roberts recently partnered his office with the Southwest Cyber Crimes Task Force to bolster investigations into the online exploitation of minors. Seated from left: Roberts, Northern Commissioner Calvin Wood, Presiding Commissioner Ralph Riggs and Southern Commissioner Bruce Williams. Standing: County Clerk Kelly Waggoner and Christos House Outreach Advocate Kenya Cook.
