Oregon County residents are invited to gather July 5, on the historic Alton courthouse square for a community potluck celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States.
The family-friendly event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and will include food, fellowship, live music and a tribute to local veterans.
Organizers said the event is intended to bring the community together in an old-fashioned way as the country marks its semiquincentennial. Attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite dish, dessert or side to share, along with lawn chairs or blankets.
Live patriotic and gospel music is planned throughout the afternoon.
A special tribute will be held to recognize veterans in attendance and honor the service of local men and women who have served the country.
Admission is free and open to all ages. Paper goods, utensils and water will be provided. Residents are encouraged to invite neighbors, bring a family recipe and wear red, white and blue.
