Heavy replacement supply and good slaughter demand

WEST PLAINS, APRIL 23, 2026 — Compared to last week, slaughter bulls sold $3 to $4 higher and slaughter cows sold $2 to $3 higher at Ozarks Regional Stockyards. Demand was good on a moderate supply of slaughter animals and a heavy supply of replacement cattle. Total receipts were 878 head.

Top Prices of the Day

• The top slaughter bull sold for $240/cwt.

• The top slaughter cow sold for $194/cwt.

• On the replacement side, the top pair sold for $5,400/pair.

• The top bred cows sold for $4,050/head.

Pricing Averages Snapshot

• Breaker Cows (75-80% dressing) averaged $176.98/cwt.

• Boner Cows (80-85% dressing) averaged $175.14/cwt.

• Lean Cows (85-90% dressing) averaged $157.38/cwt.

• Slaughter Bulls (Yield Grade 1-2) averaged $209.82/cwt.

Steady to lower market as CME Futures dip

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $4 lower on Tuesday, with the exception of 9-weight steers which sold $8 higher. Steer calves were steady to $6 lower while heifer calves were $4 to $8 lower. Demand was good on a moderate supply of 2,135 head.

Market Highlights

• There were seven loads of 8 and 9-weight steers in the offering with the remaining balance mostly unweaned or short-weaned calves.

• The largest draft of the day was 123 head of steers weighing 950 lbs which sold for $339/cwt.

• The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report, released April 17, reported Inventories were 1% lower, Placements were 7% lower and Marketings were 6% lower than a year ago.

• The CME Cattle Futures traded lower on Tuesday, while the Grain Futures traded higher.

• Steers (Medium & Large 1, 450-483 lbs): Averaged $541.99.

• Steers (Medium & Large 1, 502-542 lbs): Averaged $532.94.

• Steers (Medium & Large 1, 608-649 lbs): Averaged $444.21.

• Heifers (Medium & Large 1, 418-437 lbs): Averaged $508.82.

• Heifers (Medium & Large 1, 508-530 lbs): Averaged $453.63.

• Heifers (Medium & Large 1, 606 lbs): Averaged $394.50.

Video auction sees moderate supply from Arkansas and Mississippi

Demand was good on a moderate supply for this video auction held in conjunction with ORS' regular feeder cattle sale. Total receipts were 385 head. All cattle offered are in Arkansas and Mississippi. All deliveries are current through May 11, meaning cattle will be delivered up to 14 days from the video sale date.

• Southeast Steers (M&L 1-2, 860 lbs avg): Current delivery sold for $343/cwt.

• Southeast Heifers (M&L 1, 825 lbs avg): Current delivery sold for $331.50/cwt.

• Southeast Heifers (M&L 1, 750 lbs avg): May delivery sold for $340/cwt.

• Southeast Heifers (M&L 1-2, 730 lbs avg): Current delivery sold for $346.50/cwt.

• Southeast Heifers (M&L 1-2, 900 lbs avg): Current delivery sold for $315/cwt.
