Know of an event not listed here? Email submissions by noon Fridays to news@wpdailyquill.net with “CALENDAR” in the subject line. ONGOING

Through July 27: The Country Gospel Ministries Central USA Regional Convention is underway at the Mtn. View Community Center, 125 W. First St. Loving the Lord dedicated worship sessions will be at 10 a.m. daily, and performances in designated categories will be given at 5:30 p.m. daily, with ballots provided for voting at the end of the evening. Awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily and concessions will be available. For more information call Robin McCullough, 573-979-9071.

Through July 31: Birthday Blessings is hosting its second annual toy drive and seeking nonprofits, businesses and civic groups to host or promote a collection site. Through Aug. 31: McDonald’s and the West Plains Public Library are partnering for Happy McReaders. Children younger than 17 may pick up a punch card at the library, 750 W. Broadway, and receive a free Happy Meal from a West Plains McDonalds for every 10 punches on their card.

Through Sept. 30 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays) Artwork by local painter Rhonda Richter will be featured on the first floor of OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave. Visitors are welcome to view the display.

Through Sept. 30 (9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays) Works created by Honest Imagination Day Habilitation participants will be on display at the West Plains Public Library.

TODAY

July 24: Last Day of summer classes at MSU-WP.

July 24: West Plains Bank and Trust Company will sponsor a free pool day Mtn. View, Willow Springs and Houston. Hours: 1 to 6:45 p.m. at the Mtn. View City Pool, noon to 5 p.m. at Willow Springs Water Park and noon to 4 p.m. at Houston City Pool. Admission is free for children and adults during those hours.


THURSDAY

July 25 (10 a.m.) Chris Harlin will give a presentation at the Ozark County Historium on Gainesville’s Court Square, sharing highlights and stories from his family’s four-generation history with the Bank of Gainesville, now Century Bank of the Ozarks. The talk is free and open to the public.

July 25 (2-5 p.m.) OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave., will host Smart Start: Developing a Successful Business, a free workshop for those thinking about starting their own new business. Register online at ozsbi.com/events.

July 25 (5-8 p.m.) Open Jam with West Plains Underground at Wages Brewing Company, 1382 Bill Virdon Blvd. in East Towne Village Shopping Center. Bring an instrument to play, a song to sing, a poem to read or a comedy routine to share. No cost to participate.

July 25 (6-7:30 p.m.) Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona will host Nature Art: Pine Needlers for the second in a 12-month series dedicated to embroidering and learning about Missouri’s wildflowers. By signing up, participants are committing to attend all 12 sessions to complete 15 blocks for an entire quilt. A virtual session will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on this date for those who cannot attend in person. Registration required. July 29-Aug. 2 (1-4 p.m.) The West Plains Arts Council brings back the popular Young Writers Workshops at the West Plains Public Library, 750 W. Broadway. Sessions will be led by Curtis Copeland, nonfiction writing; Annie England Noblin, fiction writing; Abby Hess, journalism writing; Chris Herbolsheimer, photojournalism; and Dianna Locke, poetry. July 30 (1-5 p.m.) OzSBI will host Small Business, Big Impact: Marketing Strategies for Success, at The Board Room, 305 E. Washington Ave. in Ava. The workshop is $45 for OzSBI and Ava Chamber members and $65 for the general public. Aug. 3 (8 a.m. to noon) A back-to-school fair will be held in the Dora School cafeteria, with free clothing, shoes, backpacks, hygiene kits and haircuts. All needed school supplies for kindergarten through eighth grade will be provided directly to the school and paper, pens and pencils are being donated to the high school classrooms. Aug. 8 (2-4 p.m.) A meet-the-artist event for painter Rhonda Richter will be held in the lobby of OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave. The public is invited to attend and view and discuss Richter’s works on display.

Covered are self-care, baby care, infant bathing, safety, immunizations and circumcision. Aug. 10 (8 a.m. to noon) Bridges, 602 E. Olden St., will host a clothing giveaway. Students will be allowed to pick up clothing to supplement their back-to-school clothing needs. Limited school supplies will be available for those unable to attend the Back-to-School and Health Fair.

Aug. 16 (7-10 p.m.) The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce hosts Bear City Ball at Pine Meadows Venue, 1449 Highway 76. A cash bar and light appetizer grazing table catered by Pizza Americana will be available. Tickets are $30 each before July 30, and $35 after through the day of the event. Aug. 17 (11 a.m.) The Historic Avenue Theatre presents Elvis on the Avenue, featuring an Elvis impersonation contest, trivia, and “Best Iconic Elvis Wiggle” contest.
