Two Mtn. View-Birch Tree Liberty High School seniors were recently awarded Justin Cooley Memorial Scholarships in recognition of service, leadership and community involvement. The scholarships were presented to Kelbie Smith and Mahayla Collins on May 14 at the school. The awards honor the memory of Justin Cooley, a 1989 graduate of Liberty High School who was involved in several community organizations and activities. Cooley served with the Liberty Eagles Football Chain Gang, supported the Liberty High School Booster Club and was involved with Rotary and local chambers of commerce. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship. The recipients were selected through an anonymous evaluation process by the scholarship committee. Family and friends of the Cooley family attended the presentation and recognized Smith and Collins as students who reflect the qualities associated with the scholarship, including integrity, service and determination.
