MSU-WP to host Ozarks RR history presentation

The Ozarks Heritage Research Center (OHRC) will host a regional history lecture, “Iron Through the Hills: Rails over the Rivers & Ridges of the Arkansas Ozarks,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The presentation will take place at the OHRC, located inside Missouri State University-West Plains’ Garnett Library at 304 W. Trish Knight St.

Guest speaker Vincent Anderson, an Ozarks historian and official Baxter County, Ark., historian, will trace the expansion of early 20th-century railroad networks through the rugged terrain of the southern Ozarks. The lecture will explore how the lines transformed the regional economy, displaced White River steamboat navigation and reshaped remote communities.

The event is free and open to the public, co-sponsored by the OHRC and the West Plains Council on the Arts. Refreshments will be served.
