'Footprints' support local cancer patients
The promotional "footprints" printed in today's edition of the Quill feature local businesses and individuals honoring or remembering loved ones in the fight against cancer.
A portion of the proceeds from each purchased footprint will be donated by the Quill directly to the Ozarks Healthcare Cancer Treatment Center.
Street striping underway in WP
The West Plains Street Department has begun its annual street striping project, with crews scheduled to work in multiple areas across the city over the next month.
Drivers are urged to slow down, provide maintenance crews with plenty of space and remain mindful of wet paint lines.
Howell County Commission to meet Monday
The Howell County Commission will hold an open meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the conference room on the second floor of the Howell County Office Building, 35 Court Square in West Plains.
The tentative agenda includes a preconstruction meeting for Howell County Road 2000, a contract agreement involving the circuit clerk, a review of the June General Ledger Reports, the appointment of two citizens to the Board of Equalization and the approval of accounts payable.
The commission typically meets each Monday and Thursday. The public is welcome.
Free pool, snow cone days scheduled
West Plains Bank and Trust Company is sponsoring several free community appreciation events on Wednesday.
Free Pool Days will be hosted at the Mtn. View Pool from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the West Plains Aquatic Center from noon to 5 p.m., and the Houston City Pool from noon to 4 p.m. Additionally, a Free Snow Cone Day will be held at the bank's Willow Springs branch from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
VA clinic to host Veterans Resource Fair
The West Plains VA clinic, 1418 Doctors Drive, will host a free Veterans Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, as part of the national Freedom 250 campaign.
The event is open to all veterans, family members and caregivers to raise awareness about health care programs. Representatives will be onsite from eligibility, caregiver support, telehealth, women's health, whole health and suicide prevention services.
Grizzly Softball hosts high school camp
Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Softball will host a one-day High School Day Camp on July 29, at the Jimmie Carroll Sports Complex, 540 E. Olden St. Open to players entering grades 8 through 12, the camp costs $90 and offers advanced offensive and defensive drills. Participants must bring their own gear, and only molded cleats or turf shoes are permitted.
