Howell County Office Building upper parking lot closed
A structural issue discovered at the Howell County Office Building upper parking lot, just west of Court Square off West Main Street, has prompted its closure until further notice.
Barricades are in place, and parking and entering the restricted area is strictly prohibited.
Structural engineers were scheduled to meet with county commissioners on Friday to assess the lot’s condition and recommend potential repairs.
Animal shelter grand opening is today
The West Plains Regional Animal Shelter will showcase its new building during a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 1486 BB Highway in West Plains.
The event features half-price adoption fees for spayed or neutered animals, a barbecue, door prizes and a drawing for a Glenfield rifle. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Harlin Museum taking entries for juried art show
The Harlin Museum, 405 Worcester St. in West Plains, will accept entries for its annual juried art show, "Semiquincentennial: Celebrating America's 250th Birthday," from noon to 4 p.m.Wednesday through Aug. 30.
The competition is open to all artists across three categories: U.S. Symbols and Icons, Landscapes of America and Portraits of America. Entry fees start at $25 for the first submission and decrease for additional entries.
Cash prizes include $500 for Best of Show, $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third, alongside ribbons for People's Choice and Honorable Mention.
The show runs Sept. 3-26, featuring a Gala Night Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11 and an awards program Sept. 26. For details, contact the museum.
