Labor Day Closings announced
In celebration of Labor Day, the West Plains Daily Quill will be closed Monday and no online news will be published that day. Normal business hours and operations will resume Tuesday.
No mail will be delivered Monday and the postal window at the post office will be closed, though the lobby access to post office boxes will remain open.
Other closings in West Plains include city hall, Howell County offices, Howell County Health Department, West Plains Public Library, license offices, area senior centers and West Plains R-7 and surrounding rural schools.
There will be no classes and offices will be closed Monday at Missouri State University-West Plains.
Household trash usually picked up Mondays will be collected Tuesday alongside that day’s regular routes. No other routes will be affected.
The Howell County Commission will not hold its regular Monday meeting. Its next meeting will be 10 a.m. Thursday.
WP Pride hosts Arts and Crafts Expo today
West Plains Pride will host an Arts and Crafts Expo from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Galloway Park in West Plains.
The community event will be held rain or shine and is open to all LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies, featuring local artisan vendor displays, artwork and refreshments from the Ree Creations food truck and KB's Lemonade truck.

Alzheimer’s, dementia support group meets Tuesday
An Alzheimer's and dementia support group will meet from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at Cedarhurst of West Plains, 1521 U.S. 63.
Meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, the free group aims to provide a confidential space for caregivers, family and friends of individuals with dementia to share coping strategies and connect with community resources. Sessions are led by trained facilitators.
