Oz Faire is this weekend at HOBA Park

Oz Faire, hosted by Always a Future for Kids, runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at the Heart of the Ozarks Bluegrass Association (HOBA) Park, 1138 Bluegrass Lane off Lanton Road.

Daily admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 8 to 17. Children 7 and under are admitted free. Entertainment includes live music, games, food, armored combat demonstrations, crafts and regional vendors.

The event will also host a cherry pie-eating contest at 4 p.m. both days. Participation is limited to four contestants age 18 and older. Signups are available at the Dragon’s Breath Tavern onsite. For details, visit ozfaire.com or follow @OzFaire on Facebook.

 

Columbus Day closings announced for Monday

Several offices and services will be closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day.

West Plains Schools will not be in session Monday, with classes resuming Tuesday.

Govenrment offices at local, county and state levels will be closed for the holiday. Missouri State Highway Patrol driver examination stations throughout the state also will be closed Monday and will resume normal operations Tuesday.

U.S. Post Office locations will be closed, with regular mail delivery and retail services resuming Tuesday.

West Plains sanitation routes also will be affected: Monday’s trash will be collected Tuesday, with no other routes affected by the holiday.

Residents should check with individual banks, businesses and other offices for their holiday schedules.

 

STARS Foundation hosts weekly LEGO building classes

The STARS Foundation is offering weekly hands-on LEGO classes for area youth at the Red Brick Building, 208 Highway 181.

Led by internationally recognized LEGO artists Bobby and Kelli Easiman—a certified LEGO Serious Play facilitator—the classes focus on guided play, problem-solving, building techniques and creative storytelling.

Classes are held on the following schedule: ages 5–10 meet at 4:30 to 5:20 p.m.; ages 11–14, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m.; and ages 15–18: 6:30 to 7:20 p.m.
