Gainesville child injured, driver arrested following Thursday rollover

A 5-year-old girl was hurt when she was thrown from a pickup truck that overturned at 11 p.m. Thursday on County Road 503, 2 miles south of Gainesville in Ozark County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Cpl. D.J. Johnson, with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported a southbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 30-year-old Gainesville woman ran off the right side of the road, struck a fence and came to rest on its top.

It is not known if the driver was wearing a seat belt, but the child reportedly was not secured in a seat belt or child safety seat.

The girl was flown by air ambulance to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield for treatment of minor injuries, the report shows; the driver was taken by ambulance to Cox South for treatment of moderate injuries.

Johnson was assisted at the scene by Cpl. S.J. Crewse and Tpr. J. Lock.

Patrol arrest records show Destiny Bearden, 30, of Gainesville, was arrested at 2 a.m. Friday in Greene County on charges of felony driving while intoxicated resulting in injury, careless and imprudent driving, failure to maintain financial responsibility and failure to restrain a child in a child restraint. She was released for medical treatment.

 

Koshkonong teen injured in Friday ATV crash

A 16-year-old Koshkonong boy suffered minor injuries in an ATV crash at 5:15 p.m. Friday on County Road 328, 3 miles east of Koshkonong in Oregon County.

Cpl. T.M. Broyles reported a westbound 2001 Yamaha Kodiak 400 ATV driven by the teen began skidding, ran off the roadway, overturned and struck a fence.

The driver was not wearing a helmet and was taken by Oregon County Ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains for treatment, the report shows.

 

Koshkonong woman injured in Thursday crash

A 60-year-old Koshkonong woman suffered moderate injuries in a rollover crash at 8 a.m. Thursday on south U.S. 63, 6 miles south of West Plains.

Tpr. T.D. Pond reported a southbound 2011 Toyota Highlander driven by the woman ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road and overturned.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was taken to Ozarks Healthcare for treatment, the report shows.

Pond was assisted at the scene by Tpr. D.B. Howell.

 

Ava driver involved in fatal Webster Co. crash

A man from Ava was involved in a crash that fatally injured a bicyclist at 3:42 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 60 in Diggins, Webster County.

Tpr. B. Roberts, with Troop D of the patrol, Springfield, reported a westbound 2020 Ford Explorer driven by a 59-year-old Ava man struck a westbound bicycle ridden by a 25-year-old Seymour man in the same lane.

The bicyclist was reportedly not wearing a helmet. Cox Health Paramedic Ryan Larson pronounced him dead at the scene at 3:56 a.m. No injuries were reported for the driver of the Ford, who was wearing a seat belt.

The death marks the 40th traffic fatality for the year in the 18-county Troop D area, compared to 33 in the same time frame in 2025. Roberts was assisted at the scene by Cpl. K. Waters with the patrol's Major Crash Investigative Unit Team 3
