Grizzly Homecoming candidates announced

On Jan. 27, two students at Missouri State University-West Plains will be crowned the 2024 Homecoming King and Queen.

The crowning will take place during halftime ceremonies of the annual homecoming basketball game between the Grizzlies and the State Fair Community College Roadrunners from Sedalia.

The game will get underway at 7 p.m. in Joe Paul Evans Arena at the West Plains Civic Center.

King candidates are Reuben Henderson, Dixon, sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA); Caleb Ingram, Salem, sponsored by Christian Campus House (CCH); Israel A. Webster, Bellefontaine Neighbors, sponsored by the Agriculture Club; and Jack Willison, Thayer, sponsored by the Student Ambassadors.

Queen candidates are Sophia Keeney, Van Buren, sponsored by the Student Ambassadors; Abigail Mulnik, Branson, sponsored by CCH; Abbi Rouse, Thayer, sponsored by the Agriculture Club; and Melia Wiehe, West Plains, sponsored by the SGA.

Area residents can visit with all of the homecoming candidates during a special “meet and greet” reception at 6 p.m. in the civic center’s Dogwood Room. 

Also in attendance will be the 2023 Homecoming King and Queen, Kale Willison, Thayer, and Emilee Dougherty, West Plains.

Organizers said the 2024 king and queen will be crowned by Willison and Dougherty, respectively, and the queen will receive flowers from Chancellor Dennis Lancaster.

Following the crowning, the 2024 king, queen and court will go to the civic center’s Dogwood Room for photos and refreshments.
