Highway 19 in Shannon County to undergo seal coat operations

The Missouri Department of Transportation has scheduled driving surface improvements on North Highway 19 in Shannon County, which will result in width restrictions for motorists.

The work will take place between Highway 106 in Eminence and A Highway. During the project, a 10-foot width restriction will be in place. Weather permitting, crews will be onsite from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily from June 2 through 11.

The project will involve applying a seal coat, a pavement repair process used on roads with lower traffic volumes to maximize resources and extend the roadway's lifespan. Crews will spray hot emulsion oil onto the road surface, followed by finely ground rocks that are compacted to adhere to the roadway. Excess material is then swept away.

According to MoDOT, the seal coat method costs about one-third as much as a traditional asphalt overlay. The treatment seals out water, extends the life of the roadway by up to seven years and provides improved traction.

The active work zone will be marked with signs, and motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
