WEST PLAINS — Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $3 to $5 lower and slaughter bulls were steady to $2 lower Wednesday at the Ozarks Regional Stockyards. Demand was moderate on a very light supply of 189 head. Hot weather is keeping cattle at home, as producers are holding out for cooler temperatures to load and bring cattle to market.

• The top slaughter cow sold for $154/cwt.
• On the replacement side, the top pair sold for $4,350/pair.

Post-Labor Day bidding gains ground
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $4 higher on Tuesday. Steer and heifer calves under 700 lbs were steady to $6 higher in a light test of the market. Demand was moderate on a light supply of 515 head. The cash market established some footing following the Labor Day holiday as CME Future Contracts traded higher. Buyers were more aggressive on Tuesday but continued to discount calves lacking a pre-conditioning program.

• The largest draft of the day was 65 head of 928 lb colored-up steers which sold for $300/cwt.
• Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs made up 76% of the daily offering.

Moderate supply clears video auction with good demand
Demand was good on a moderate supply for this Video Auction held in conjunction with ORS' feeder cattle sale. Total receipts were 507 head reported sold. All cattle offered are in Arkansas, with current deliveries through Sept. 22.
