West Plains R-7 School District officials have announced the appointment of Michelle Miller as the new social worker for the district, effective immediately. Miller, a dedicated and experienced counselor, has been a valued member of the West Plains Elementary team, where she has made a significant impact on students' lives, said district officials.

She will take on a dual role for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year, continuing to serve as elementary school counselor while also carrying out her social work duties. This unique arrangement will allow her to seamlessly transition into her new responsibilities, providing vital support to students and their families, officials explained. Starting July 1, Miller will assume her role as a full-time school social worker, further enhancing the district's expressed commitment to student well-being.

"We are excited for Ms. Miller to bring her wealth of social work, community engagement, and school counseling experience into this role in an effort to serve our students and families," said Mr. Matthew Orchard, director of human resources and student services. "Her dedication to the educational community and her passion for helping students succeed makes her the perfect fit for this important position."

As the school district's new social worker, Miller will play a crucial role in addressing the social, emotional and behavioral needs of students, said officials, further explaining that she will work closely with students, parents, teachers and community resources to provide comprehensive support and ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.
