The Ozarks Heritage Research Center at Missouri State University-West Plains will host “A Road Trip into America’s Hidden Heart,” a presentation by Emmy Award-winning writer John Drake Robinson, at 6 p.m. Aug. 25.

The free event will be held at the research center, located inside Garnett Library, 304 W. Trish Knight St. in West Plains. It is sponsored by the Ozarks Heritage Research Center, Missouri Humanities and the West Plains Council on the Arts. Refreshments will be provided.

Robinson drove every mile of every road on the Missouri state highway map over 13 years. During the presentation, he will share stories from his travels across the state.

Robinson, a former Missouri director of tourism, graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1974. He has worked for the Rolla Daily News and Gardner Advertising Company in St. Louis.

Called the “King of the Road” by Missouri Life magazine, Robinson lives in Columbia when he is not traveling. His articles and columns regularly appear in Missouri Life, Rural Missouri and Show Me Missouri magazines.

His newest book, “Souls Along the Road,” continues the road-trip stories of his earlier works, “A Road Trip into America’s Hidden Heart” and “Coastal Missouri.” He won an Emmy Award for the series “Finding Wild Missouri,” produced by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
