OZH family nurse practitioner encourages seasonal wellness care

Posted

In October 2023, Ozarks Healthcare announced the addition of Family Nurse Practitioner Brooke Fair to its team in Mtn. Grove. The strategic addition came at a crucial time of the year, say Ozarks Healthcare officials, as nurse practitioners play a pivotal role in providing specialized seasonal wellness care.

As the winter season unfolds, nurse practitioners like Fair are instrumental in ensuring community well-being, officials point out. They offer personalized care for seasonal illnesses, vaccinations and proactive health measures tailored to the unique challenges this time of year presents.

"Winter presents special health challenges, and prioritizing wellness care becomes crucial,” Fair said. “Regular check-ups help us proactively address potential issues and ensure everyone can enjoy a healthy season."

The key to preventing common seasonal illnesses such as flu and other respiratory diseases is early detection.

“Cold weather can constrict blood vessels, elevating blood pressure and potentially leading to heart-related issues,” Fair said. “The dry winter air can be harsh on our respiratory system, triggering or worsening conditions like asthma and bronchitis. From the flu to cold-related illnesses, being proactive about seeing care during winter can reduce worsening of these conditions, which can keep you down for long periods of time.”

In addition to seeking medical care early when feeling unwell, preventive measures, such as flu vaccinations, maintaining good hand hygiene and staying warm to protect against weather-related health concerns can also keep people healthy all season long.

With a strong foundation in nursing, officials note, Fair brings her wealth of experience as a family nurse practitioner, having previously served at Ozarks Healthcare in Winona. In her new role in Mtn. Grove, Fair is dedicated to addressing and treating a broad spectrum of medical issues, with a heightened focus on seasonal health concerns.

Fair is accepting new patients. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 417-926-6563. The clinic, located at 500 E. 19th St., is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with walk-in hours available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
