Landon Marsh, 21, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault. He has pleaded not guilty and is held on a $100,000 bond.
The investigation began March 31 when West Plains Police Officer Whitley Dobbs was presented with photos showing bruises on a woman’s back, limbs and torso. In a statement to prosecutors, Dobbs noted the bruises ranged from a half-inch to 6 inches in size.
The victim told law enforcement she had been physically abused by Marsh on numerous occasions, alleging the abuse included biting, pinching, choking and punching. She reported that Marsh would press on her windpipe or attempt to suffocate her with a blanket. During the incident under investigation, she alleged Marsh kicked her in the ribs and arms.
A second victim reported he was struck in the shin with a baseball bat during the same encounter. Dobbs observed a large laceration on the man's leg consistent with the report.
PRIOR CRIMINAL HISTORY
Court records indicate Marsh was serving a suspended five-year sentence at the time of the alleged incident. He pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in June 2023 following a May 2023 incident in which he reportedly used brass knuckles to strike a man in the face and head.
Though his probation was revoked a month after his initial sentencing, he was released back to probation in November 2025 after completing a 120-day institutional program.
Marsh also pleaded guilty last year to felony resisting arrest following a scuffle with a Howell County deputy. He received a four-year suspended sentence for that charge, which ran concurrently with the assault sentence.
Marsh is scheduled to appear Friday for a counsel status hearing before Associate 37th Circuit Judge R. David Ray. The case is being prosecuted by Howell County Prosecutor Mike Hutchings and Assistant Prosecutor Jodi Brunson.
