The University of Missouri Extension in Howell County is offering a Missouri Grazing School from April 30 through May 2 at the extension center, 1376 Bill Virdon Blvd. in East Towne Village shopping center in West Plains.
Knowledgeable speakers from the MU Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Howell County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Missouri Forage and Grassland Council will discuss all aspects of management-intensive grazing, said organizers. Topics to be discussed will include soil management, plant growth, forage quality, fencing and watering systems, livestock nutrient requirements, layout and design of rotational grazing systems, economics of management-intensive grazing, and cosh-share programs available to farmers.
Attendees will also tour established management-intensive grazing systems and learn to evaluate forage quality, pasture condition and forage resources through field exercises.
Donuts, snacks, lunch and drinks will be provided. Notebook materials, forage, fencing and watering books, and grazing stick for forage measurement are included int he cost of the grazing school. The int is $180 for the first person from a farm and $75 for an additional person from the same farm. Register by April 22, as space is limited.
