Students can earn cash for schools through national patriot video contest

Posted

In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, area students have an opportunity to show off their creative talents while earning cash prizes for their schools.

WoodmenLife has launched its "America Is… 250!" Video Contest, inviting students in kindergarten through 12th grade to produce an original 30- to 60-second video expressing what America means to them. Entries are accepted through Oct. 7.

The national, annual “America Is…” contest divides participants into two categories: grades kindergarten through eight and high school grades nine through 12. A grand prize of $2,500, a second place award of $1,500, and a third place prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the winning schools in each division. Grand prize winners will also receive a commemorative award to display at their school buildings.

"As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, we're excited to invite students to celebrate America's story through creative videos while competing for recognition and cash awards for their schools," said Robby Molony, vice president of fraternal affairs for WoodmenLife.

Following the submission window, entries will be posted online for public voting on the WoodmenLife Facebook page from Oct. 14 through 21. Winners will be officially announced on Facebook, @WoodmenLife, on Oct. 27.

The contest offers local parents, teachers and community members a chance to rally behind their students. Last year’s national competition drew 51 school entries and generated more than 21,000 online votes.

Founded in 1890, WoodmenLife has sponsored the annual competition since 2017, awarding $60,000 to participating schools nationwide. Local educators, parents, and community leaders are encouraged to help area youth participate in the milestone celebration.
