Ambassador

Posted

An ambassador is an official representative who works in a foreign country and represents his or her own country. For us as Americans, ambassadors are an important link for American citizens living in a foreign nation.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul describes the Christian believers as ambassadors. They are under Christ’s authority, sent to spread the gospel, representing Christ, his values and teachings.

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, we read, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

Paul had lived for 18 months in Corinth, a cosmopolitan, Roman city that was notorious for immorality and pagan religions. Christians were to be in the world but not of it (John 17:14-19) while they carried Christ’s message to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

We also are to be ambassadors for Christ, relying on the Holy Spirit, living lives that reflect God’s love and encouraging other believers.

May God bless your week!
