Willow Springs Middle School sixth grader Izzy Callahan is in the running for a $20,000 prize she intends to use to help out Ozarks Pet Rescues, and additionally put aside some to study to become a veterinarian and donate to local programs to help families.
Her favorite animal is the horse and in the future she hopes to adopt a wild mustang, her mother Shannon Huddleston says.
She is an entrant in the 2026 Jr. Ranger Competition, an online contest sponsored by Ranger Rick magazine in support of the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).
Callahan is in sixth place and needs to advance to fifth place in her group by 9 p.m. Thursday to stay in the running for the $20,000 prize and be featured in Ranger Rick magazine, according to the contest website.
It is a fundraiser for the NWF, and voters may vote once a day for free. Additional votes may be purchased with a donation to NWF, an organization dedicated to the preservation of wildlife and their habitats.
