WORDS TO LIVE BY: Foundation

In Matt. 7:24-25, Jesus says, “Therefore, anyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Each week I briefly discuss a word from the Bible in this column. God’s words to us ... hope, compassion, steadfast love, refuge, resurrection. These words tell us of God’s purpose for our lives. They are the foundation we need to build upon.

Words influence us. They can shape our behavior, our attitudes and our priorities. There are so many voices in the world around us. Whose words are a part of your foundation?

Remember what Jesus said: “But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash” (Matt. 7:26-27).

May we in faith choose God’s words. God bless your week!
