The Ozark Spring Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized seven area high school seniors with the DAR Good Citizen Award.

Honorees were selected from high schools in Alton, Plato, Summersville, West Plains, Willow Springs, Winona and the Ozarks Christian Academy in West Plains. School counselors and administrators nominate recipients based on dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.

Created in 1934, the national program aims to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. Each accredited school is limited to honoring one student per year.

Once selected, recipients are invited to enter the optional scholarship portion of the program, which requires a personal statement and an essay. Scholarships are awarded to essay winners at the chapter, state, division and national levels.

OCA student Elianna Aichele, won the Ozark Spring Chapter essay contest this year, earning a $500 scholarship. She was recognized during the awards presentation with her family, including her grandmother Ruth Stevens, a member of Ozark Spring DAR.
