Aug. 11
Maksim Alan Protzman, 18, was arrested by Officer Daiman Meyer on a charge of stealing a vehicle with a prior conviction for stealing. He was released the following day without bond.
At 8:35 p.m., Officer Robert Shell responded to a crash near the intersection of Abe Taylor Street and Washington Avenue. The involved vehicle was learned to be stolen. A boy was detained, interviewed at the police station, then taken into juvenile custody. A man was arrested and placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges. Charges were sent to the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office.
Aug. 15
Officer Dawson Beavers responded at 6 a.m. to the 900 block of Porter Wagoner Boulevard for an assault. Two men fought during a road rage incident. The primary aggressor later turned himself in and the case was referred to county prosecutors.
Aug. 16
Officer Katie Sandgren was advised by dispatch at 7:19 p.m. that a parent wanted to speak to an officer regarding a child being touched inappropriately at West Plains Middle School. The case was referred to detectives for further investigation.
Aug. 18
Officer Nathaniel Siegrist responded at 12:09 p.m. to Wash Board Laundry on Porter Wagoner Boulevard for a stealing complaint. The missing property was recovered, and a suspect arrested on a charge of first-degree burglary. A probable cause statement was sent to county prosecutors.
Aug. 19
Johnathan Dwayne McKee, 51, was arrested by Officer Siegrist on charges of first-degree burglary and felony stealing. He was released the same day without bond.
Aug. 28
At 12:57 p.m., Officer Ivie Powell responded to the 100 block of Kentucky Avenue for a report of terroristic threats to West Plains School District students. A probable cause statement was sent to county prosecutors.
Aug. 30
Devin William Wood, 29, was arrested at 2:46 a.m. by Officer Tombley who registered his vehicle driving at a speed of 103 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S. 63. He was placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal charges of speeding, driving while revoked and DWI with a prior conviction.
Aug. 31
Sgt. Josh Wichowski responded to a 911 call at 12:14 p.m. to Fifth Street and encountered a suicidal man who tried to grab the officer’s gun from its holster. After a brief struggle, the man was placed on a 96-hour mental health evaluation hold at Ozarks Healthcare. Formal charges of assault, resisting arrest and failure to obey a lawful order are sought through the municipal court.
Sept. 2
Michael Allen Doolittle, 26, was arrested by Sgt. Brent McKemie on charges of habitual DWI and two counts of third-degree assault on a special victim. He was released the following day without bond.
Sept. 4
Sgt. Wichowski responded to an encampment on private property along Mitchell Street. The property owner wanted the occupants trespassed from the area and authorized police to enforce trespassing-related issues.
James Thomas Beckring, 23, was arrested by Officer Meyer on a charge of stealing a vehicle. He was released the following day without bond.
