West Plains student performs with SEMO Wind Ensemble at WindFest

Posted

Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) student Kadin Ostermeier of West Plains recently
performed with the university’s Wind Ensemble at WindFest, a featured concert event held
March 22 at Cincinnati Music Hall.
Hosted by the Cincinnati Wind Band, WindFest brings together select ensembles to perform in a
nationally recognized concert venue.
Dr. Jim Daughters, associate professor of music and director of bands at SEMO, said the
invitation-only performance provided students with an opportunity to perform at a high level
beyond the university setting.

Participation in WindFest is based on performance quality and consistency. Daughters said the
SEMO ensemble was selected following previous collaborations, including a performance at
Carnegie Hall last year.
Preparation for the performance included refining concert repertoire and planning additional
performances for schools along the way. Daughters said the ensemble aims to connect with a
wide range of audiences, particularly prospective students.
At SEMO, performance opportunities on and off campus are intended to help students develop
professional skills and gain real-world experience through live performances and audience
engagement.
