Christos House, represented here by Executive Director Kelli Neel, is a provider of services to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, including emergency shelter and referral to permanent housing, counseling and other resources. After decades of dormitory-style emergency housing for clients and their children, a village of 14 tiny homes in various sizes is being built to accommodate families of many sizes as the organization’s next project. The privacy of the individual living quarters is meant to improve the outcomes and trauma recovery of victims, Neel said.

It’s a boy! John Craig Decker was the first baby born at Texas County Memorial Hospital in 2025, arriving at 4:09 p.m. Jan. 1, announced hospital officials, adding his parents, Nicholas and Leah Decker, Eminence, were “overjoyed to welcome their precious son, John.” Dr. Christopher Baldwin, obstetrician and gynecologist, and Dr. Kristina Grant, family medicine physician specializing in obstetrics, delivered baby John. He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, and measured 19 inches long. Jim and Wilda McNiell, along with Alice Wells, representatives of the TCMH Auxiliary, presented gifts and gift certificates to the new family. Local businesses, including West Plains Bank, Simmons Bank (locations in Cabool and Houston), Walmart, Forbes, Progressive Ozark Bank, Shelter Insurance (Airika Barnett-Wiseman), D&L Florist, People’s Bank of Cabool, Security Bank of the Ozarks, State Farm Insurance, S&R Insurance, the TCMH Healthcare Foundation and New Beginnings Church, donated gifts to celebrate the arrival.
