An Easter homecoming

Posted

Easter Sunday at Handy Church felt like a homecoming. It was nostalgic having Bob and Jeanetta Featherston there. Jeanetta looked lovely and Bob delivered a fine sermon. Janet Hoskins and I filled in on piano for Johnny Davis, accompanied by Ervin Sisco on guitar.

On reflection, it strikes me that several members who have undergone serious health challenges recently were present bearing witness to the power of faith in their recovery. Shookie Hilton and Roy Kennedy came through cancer treatments. Robert Kirby and Ivan Sisco continue their medical journeys looking well. June Watson, having had emergency surgery only weeks ago, was back directing the service. My own hip replacement thankfully healed enough to make the long drive. We were also glad to see Cheri, Dalton, Clara, Pam, the Danny Ray family and the extended Kennedy family.

After church, John Hoskins reported a count of forty-four! It was wonderful to have children filling their Easter baskets in the egg hunt, playing on the jungle gym and shooting baskets. The azaleas at the cemetery were beautiful, the weather was awesome and a bountiful feast was enjoyed by all!

Memorial Day, the military graves will all be marked with American flags and plans are underway for the memorial service for George Haney on Sunday, May 24, with military honors provided by the Doniphan VFW chapter. The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. following the usual church service and conclude with a light luncheon provided by the Handy Cemetery Association. Memorial donations may be directed to Edwards Funeral Home,

606 Walnut Street, Doniphan, MO 63935.

The annual Davis reunion and potluck luncheon will take place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at Handy Church. We look forward to seeing everyone who comes out for these events.
