Commission to meet Monday
The Howell County Commission will conduct a meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in the conference room on the second floor of the Howell County Office Building, 35 Court Square,.
The tentative agenda includes a grant conference with the sheriff’s office and the approval of accounts payable.
The commission typically meets each Monday and Thursday. The public is welcome.
Thornburgh Street crossing to close
Following the May 1 opening of the Independence Drive overpass, the city of West Plains will permanently close the Thornburgh Street railroad crossing. The crossing will close to all traffic on Friday.
City officials cited improved transportation and safety as the primary goals for the project.
Veteran Memorial banners reveal
A ceremony to reveal the community’s Veteran Memorial banners will be held at 10 a.m. May 25 on the front lawn of the West Plains Civic Center.
The banners, which will hang downtown beginning Memorial Day, are part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project in partnership with the city and AMVETS Post 98. The ceremony will include a mayoral proclamation and remarks about the veterans being honored.
Willow Springs summer meal program
Willow Springs Schools will host its annual Summer Food Service Program from May 26 through June 18. Free meals are available to all children ages 18 and younger and eligible disabled adults.
Meals will be served Monday through Friday in the Willow Springs Elementary cafeteria, with breakfast from 7:30 to 8:10 a.m. and lunch from 10:50 a.m. to 12:40 p.m..
