The Harlin Museum, 405 Worcester St. in West Plains, is calling on artists of all experience levels to submit entries for its Semiquincentennial Juried Art Show, a special exhibition celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

Artwork will be accepted at the museum from Aug. 26 through 30. The exhibition will be on display to the public from Sept. 3 through 26.

The juried exhibition is open to original two-dimensional, wall-hung artwork. Eligible media include paintings, drawings, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, oils, colored pencils, ink, mixed media, printmaking and fiber art.

Artists are encouraged to share their unique visions and creative interpretations of America’s heritage, landscapes, people and symbols to commemorate the historic milestone. Artwork may be entered into one of three categories: U.S. Symbols and Icons, Landscapes of America, and Portraits of America.

An independent judge will evaluate the submissions for inclusion in the exhibition and for awards. Cash prizes will be presented to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category, in addition to a $500 Best of Show award. Ribbons will also be awarded for People’s Choice and Honorable Mention.

Entry fees operate on a sliding scale: $25 for the first entry, $20 for the second, $15 for the third, $10 for the fourth and $5 for the fifth.

The public is invited to attend a Gala Night Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11, where visitors can view the exhibition and celebrate the artists. Awards will be formally presented during a closing program from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 26,.

The exhibition is made possible through the support of the Law Office of Jacob Y. Garrett.

For more information, contact the Harlin Museum during its regular operating hours, noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, or reach out via the museum’s Facebook page, @HarlinMuseumWP.
