SUMMERSVILLE BOOKENDS: Library prepares for new Book Club session

Posted

It’s never too late to join our library’s Book Club! Our group reads the same book one month, discusses it the next month and picks up a new book for the next reading. We‘re presently reading "We Begin at the End" by Chris Whitaker.

There’s only one requirement to join our group: You must love to read! Our next Book Club meets Saturday, Aug. 8.

Our Summer Reading programs are always fun for the librarians as well as the participants and this year is no different, but our exciting 2026 "Unearth a Story: Dinosaurs!" Summer Reading Program has only two weeks left!

Our StoryWalk will be set up on the Square from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Thursday through the rest of our summer reading program. Everyone is encouraged to walk the walk as they read the story!

Our front table has an ongoing puzzle for all and a dinosaur tablecloth that can be colored with markers or crayons for creative fun. Additionally, the Early Literacy computers in the children’s department have been removed during the summer reading program and replaced with juvenile puzzles of both our country and of dinosaurs. Our younger patrons are welcome to check these out when visiting our library.

New fiction books this past week include "Spring Fever" by Mary Kay Andrews; "Dirty Thirty" and "Now or Never," books 30 and 31 in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series; and "Bog Queen" by Anna North.

New easy fiction titles are "Gaga Mistake Day" by Emma and Susan Straub, and "Happy Pig Day!" by Mo Willems. New books in the juvenile "The Land of Stories" series by Chris Colfer are No. 3, "A Grimm Warning," and No. 6, "Worlds Collide."

"All the People in the Bible: An A-Z Guide to the Saints, Scoundrels, and Other Characters in Scripture" by Richard R. Losch is a new addition to our nonfiction section.

New juvenile DVDs are DreamWorks’ "Monsters vs. Aliens," "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" and "The Adventures of Tintin." Other feature DVDs are Disney’s "Queen of Katwe" and "The Shining" starring Jack Nicholson.

Texas County Library cards are free, yet priceless! You’ll need to bring both a current photo ID and proof of current address — such as canceled mail, a utility bill or a checkbook — when applying for a new card.
