The Lady Zizzers golfers busted into their season Monday, braving the heat to take the top prize at the Lady Zizzer Invitational, played on the course at West Plains Country Club.
West Plains finished first in the nine-school field, followed by Mtn. Grove in second. The West Plains junior varsity squad secured third place overall.
“There were some good golfers at our tournament,” West Plains Head Coach James Sharp said.
Sharp noted the 18-hole, par 70 course was in good condition, but the weather was rough.
“It felt like 100 or more all day,” Sharp said.
Despite the brutal conditions, West Plains placed five golfers in the scoring lineup, led by Charlie Huddleston, who carded an 84. Huddleston finished in a three-way tie for fourth place individually alongside Ash Grove’s Collins Rust and Mtn. Grove’s Peyton Tyrrell.
Bella Juline followed with an 89 to place seventh, while Rose Reeves shot a 92 to take eighth. Libby Gohn carded a 101 and Allie Petrus finished with a 102 to round out the Lady Zizzer scoring.
Ash Grove's Rylee Allred claimed the individual title with a 75. Bakersfield's Massey Hayes took second with a 79, followed by Mtn. View-Birch Tree Liberty's Kameryn Wood in third at 80.
Bakersfield’s Madalyn Hayes shot 93 for ninth place, and Mtn. Grove's Gabby Miller rounded out the individual top 10 with a 95.
