Learning
As students, teachers and school staff members return to school, we all need to remember that learning is central to our lives as Christians. God has more to teach us.
So, read the Bible. Make it a habit and read a chapter a day. The Gospels are the best place to begin. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
As you read, pray for understanding. “I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” (Psalm 32:8). Gather with other believers. The Holy Spirit is at work in the fellowship we share, and we learn from each other.
In all of these ways, may we listen for God’s guidance and may we grow in wisdom, faith and love.
Mercy
In Lam. 3:22-23 we read, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning: great is your faithfulness” (ESV).
These words were written after the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple in 587 B.C. Israel had experienced God’s judgment, and yet they still had hope because of God’s love and mercy.
In the Old Testament, we see that God’s mercy is the compassionate treatment of others. Our God is merciful and forgiving. When we wake up to storm clouds, difficulties, trials or tribulations, we can trust that God’s mercies will be present each morning.
God is love, and God is faithful. God gives his mercy to us so that we can show mercy to others. Jesus said, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36).
May God bless your week!
