The West Plains High School boys and girls cross country teams each captured first-place championships at the 2026 Zizzer Invitational, also known as the Joe Bill Dixon Invitational, on Sept. 15. Despite temperatures in the upper 90s and a heat index topping 100 degrees, both varsity squads put on dominant performances on their home course.
"It was a hot afternoon, but the Zizzers did well," Head Coach Alicia Gunter said. "We want to thank those who volunteered and worked the meet. Overall, it was a good day for the West Plains runners to get to race at home."
The West Plains Middle School boys and girls teams also competed at the invitational, with both squads earning second-place finishes.
