West Plains R-7 School District officials have announced Dr. Seth Huddleston as the new head coach of the West Plains High School Boys Basketball team. Huddleston has a long history of coaching, most recently leading the West Plains Middle School boys' basketball program. His experience, dedication and leadership have made a lasting impact on student athletes at every level, said officials. In addition to his new role, Dr. Huddleston will continue serving as principal of South Fork Elementary School, where officials say he has been a “valued leader and advocate for students and staff.” He has been employed with the district since 2008. Zizzers baseball Head Coach James Sharp has 40 players on his roster, including returning seniors Hunter Roberts, Ethan Tuma, Hoyt Weisbrod, Avery Miller, Blake Chitwood, Brett Walker and Isaiah Jones. Returning varsity members are Tuma, Roberts and Landon Montgomery. The team is coming off an impressive 24-5 record last season, and Sharp seems optimistic about what's ahead. "I think we will have a pretty decent year. We have a really good pitching staff and good defense,” he said. "If we can piece it together offensively, we'll have a pretty good season."

Hunter Stanley, 15, a West Plains High School sophomore, recently placed third overall, winning the bronze medal, and first in his age division, at the Vacation Races Zion Half-marathon in Utah. It was his first experience running at such an altitude. He is seen here sporting his medals from the event. The race began in the town of Virgin and proceeded 13.1 miles to Springdale.

Lady Zizzers fall short to Bluejays in District Championship
In a hard-fought battle for the Class 5 District 6 championship, the West Plains Lady Zizzers left everything on the court Tuesday night but ultimately fell to the Marshfield Lady Bluejays, 64-58, at Willard High School. Despite several late-game rallies, the Lady Zizzers couldn’t overcome Marshfield’s free-throw shooting and second-chance points down the stretch. more

The West Plains Lady Zizzers left no doubt on Friday night, storming past the Hillcrest Lady Hornets with a commanding 72-51 victory in the Class 5 District 6 semifinals. From the opening tip, the Lady Zizzers came out firing on all cylinders, setting the tone early with relentless defense and lights-out shooting.
