Great Rivers Distributing is a $500 sponsor for the West Plains Noon Rotary Club’s Nov. 10 Boots and Barbecue event at Rubydoo’s Event Center, 9240 County Road 9190 east of West Plains. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door and include a barbecue dinner, cash bar, music, live auction, hay rides and a “cash bubble house” game. Proceeds go toward Rotary efforts to ensure children at risk of going hungry have food to eat over weekends and school breaks. Great Rivers chips in for Boots and Barbecue event
The Bikers United nonprofit group of West Plains has dissolved as of Wednesday. In order to clear the books, organization members decided to make donations to other local nonprofits, including a $3,393.70 contribution to the West Plains R-7 School District Bridges program. Bridges assists district students with needs like school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and easy-to-prepare food that students can take home over the weekends in an effort to mitigate hunger. The program’s goal is to make it easier for students to focus on learning by helping to address other needs that may distract them. Bridges Coordinator Cyndi Wright, center, said Bikers United donation will be used to provide Thanksgiving food vouchers to 150 to 200 students for the upcoming holiday. Bikers United President James Mayfield, right, thanked community members for their support of the group over the years and said he was happy to pass along the funds to other worthy causes. Also present for the donation was Carol Cooper, Bikers United board member.

The brisk autumn air and biting winds of Halloween were no match for the warmth of community spirit in West Plains, as the Downtown Revitalization organization hosted its annual Scare on the Square event. Over 800 costume-clad locals came together in a festive celebration of fall and community camaraderie, organizers reported. more

The building located at 198 N. Center St. in downtown Willow Springs is in need of immediate attention to remedy its dangerous condition, according to City Administrator Beverly Hicks, who spoke with engineer Gene Douglas on the matter. Douglas is expected to present the results of a feasibility study on the building to city council members today.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $40 in advance and $50 at the door the day of the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Rubydoo’s Event Center, 9240 County Road 9190 off of ZZ Highway. Festivities will include a barbecue dinner, cash bar, music, live auction, hay rides and a “cash bubble house” game. Happy hour will last from 5:30 to 6 p.m., followed by dinner until 7, then a live auction until 7:30. Hayrides will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30. Proceeds go toward Rotary efforts to ensure children at risk of going hungry have food to eat over weekends and school breaks.
