The Willow Springs Tuesday Study Club met at the Willow Springs Senior Center for a regular business meeting on March 19. Mary Knott and Kathleen Carel were the hostesses with the assistance of Pauline Cape. This “handsome” orange-and-white male tabby cat is named George, and is about 6 months old, shares West Plains Regional Animal Shelter volunteer Trish Hammen, adding, “George is very outgoing, playful and very energetic. He would like a home with kids to chase him around and play with him.” The fee to adopt is $45 and includes the cost of neutering and vaccinations. Hammen invites all to visit the shelter at 1486 BB Highway and check out the new facility and and meet the residents, which include cats and dogs. Donations continue to be accepted for the inside of the new building, and Hammen expresses thanks to those who have already contributed. Shelter hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. A group of Project Leads the Way (PLTW) engineering students and science teacher Dr. Janet Brewer of West Plains High School were invited to participate in S.T.E.M. Day at the Capitol in Jefferson City. The visit exposed students to engineering concepts and innovations through hands-on experiences. Companies including Boeing, Missouri University of Science &amp; Technology in Rolla, KC S.T.E.M. Alliance, National Security Campus and others were present at the event and offered insights into the forefront of science, technology, engineering and mathematical advancements. Students in attendance were, from left, Riley Lilly, Adilee Smith, Natalie Bahus, Daigeen Parrish, Caleb Niesen and William LaChance.
