AT A GLANCE

April 23

Lt. Jason Long reported that fugitive task force officers met with Oregon County Sheriff King on April 20 regarding a federal warrant issued for David Penn, accused of threatening a postal worker and federally charged accordingly. King requested assistance with Penn’s arrest. On the morning of April 23, fugitive task force officers and Howell County SWAT deputies responded to Oregon County Road 316 and took Penn into custody without issue.

May 11

Deputy Tyler Ryan responded at 11:40 p.m. to a home on the 900 block of Highway 14 for a domestic disturbance involving a man who said he would burn the house down. Smoke was visible when the deputy arrived, so he entered the home to ensure no one was inside. A man in the house was detained and the building was secured. Timothy Ray Fuqua, 46, was arrested by the same deputy May 12 on charges of second-degree arson and third-degree domestic assault.

May 16

At 6:26 p.m., Deputy Vice responded to a verbal disturbance on County Road 5710 in Willow Springs. After hearing statements of verbal and physical abuse from multiple family members and being handed a broken glass pipe by a child, Children’s Division was called to the scene and a call was placed with the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline. The pipe reportedly field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

May 21

At 3:20 p.m., Deputy Michael Pauly overheard radio traffic from 911 advising Willow Springs law enforcement to look for a charcoal gray Jeep Cherokee with Florida tags heading south on U.S. 63 from Cabool. The plates had been reported stolen and it was believed a stolen gun may be in the vehicle. After a pursuit, the driver and passenger were arrested and held for U.S. Homeland Security.

May 22

Seth Allen Smith, 27, was arrested by Lt. Torey Thompson on charges of second-degree molestation of a child younger than 12 and first-degree sodomy of a child younger than 12, or attempt. He was released the same day on $75,000 bond.

May 23

At 8:21 p.m., Cpl. Timothy Gordon and Deputy Kyle Holloway responded to a physical assault at a home on WW Highway near Mtn. View. The intoxicated suspect fled before deputies arrived. While searching the area, deputies found the suspect had crashed his vehicle and been ejected; despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

May 28

Doug Jason McClaren, 42, was arrested by Deputy Pauly on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic assault, third-degree domestic assault, first-degree rape or attempt, and tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution, or attempt.  He is held on $115,000 bond.

May 29

Matthew Ray Brashers, 28, was arrested by Deputy James Hatten on charges of child abuse or neglect; first-degree burglary; second-degree burglary, two counts; stealing, value of $750 or more, two counts; and stealing a firearm or explosive material. He is held on $30,000 bond.
