Safety coalition offers grants to law enforcement

Posted

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety is offering a grant opportunity to local law enforcement agencies to help cover the cost of equipment that supports efforts to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Missouri’s roadways.

Applications are being accepted through June 15. The regional funding is typically used to award medical trauma kits, portable breathalyzers, road flare kits, safety vests, Stalker radars and other related gear. To qualify, agencies must demonstrate how the requested equipment will improve roadway safety.

Grant applications are scored based on several factors, including the proposed impact of the request on reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries, local traffic data and statistics, and the agency's traffic safety engagement with the community. Evaluators will also consider an applicant's active participation with the Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety, their involvement in enforcement campaigns with the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety and Traffic Division, and the items the agency has received from this grant in recent years.

Interested agencies can complete the grant application online at www.savemolives.com/se. For additional information, contact Senior Communications Specialist Ashley Metelski at 573-472-5885 or MoDOT’s Customer Service Center toll-free at 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636).
