The new Moody Community Building, in the same site as the former building, off of E Highway in Moody, is now fully wheelchair-accessible, including the restrooms. An open house is set to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday for the public to tour the facility, with refreshments to be served.

The McClellan Building on Main Street in Willow Springs is no longer considered dangerous, with the removal of its declaration as such made official by city council members during their Feb. 15. The good news comes after about a year of renovation setbacks and efforts by the city and the Willow Springs Community Foundation to preserve the building, including monthly updates on progress by foundation Director Dean Aye. The large brick building is owned by the foundation, and in talks between foundation members and city officials, it was agreed the structure has value, both historically and as a possible retail or office space once renovation is complete.
McClellan Building in Willow no longer considered dangerous
The city of Willow Springs has removed its dangerous-building designation from the McClellan Building at the corner of 104 E. Main St., first put into place in December 2022 on the recommendation of John Oke-Thomas of Oke-Thomas Associates, an architectural and construction firm headquartered in Springfield. more

South U.S. 63 from WP to Kosh to be one lane from March to June

After almost 35 years, charges have been filed in a Douglas County cold case related to the June 1989 murder of Kelle Ann Workman, 24, of the Seymour area. On Wednesday law enforcement and Douglas County Prosecutor Matthew Weatherman held a press conference to announce the arrests of Bobby L. Banks, 65, of Seymour; Leonard D. Banks, 64, of Gainesville; and Wiley Belt, 64, of Ava, each charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and forcible rape. During the month of January, students in the Willow Springs School District participated in the Fields of Dreams Uganda South Central Association (SCA) Change for Change Challenge, shared district Communications Director Jenny Hayward. “Our students raised a grand total of $1,800 from collecting change and are the winners of the SCA Challenge,” she said. The funds will support the Fields of Dreams Uganda Ekisa Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students at partner schools in Uganda, Hayward explained. Fields of Dreams Uganda is a nonprofit that provides hope, empowerment and a future to the vulnerable children of Uganda through the vehicles of soccer and education. “Willow students will have the opportunity to connect with students at St. Kizito Primary School via Zoom calls, letter-writing and encouragement through cultural exchange opportunities, Hayward added. “The P6 & P7 students of St. Kizito were proud to wave the Willow Springs Bears flag!”
