Birthday Blessings, a West Plains-based nonprofit organization supporting foster kids, is having a Thanksgiving Double the Impact Campaign beginning Monday and running through Nov. 22. An anonymous supporter will match donations up to a total of $5,000 during this time, organization officials announced.

View, awaiting donations of new, unwrapped toys to deliver to children for Christmas. Several nonprofits are collaborating in an effort to fill a holiday resource need in the community.

A record-setting 6.26 inches of rain fell between 12:30 a.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday in West Plains, recorded by the National Weather Service office in Springfield, and shut down in-person classes at area schools and caused area rivers and creeks to rise to levels not seen since 2017, according to official reports.

Capt. Scott White, Public Information and Education Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, has announced the patrol will no longer provide the names of those involved in injury accidents or boating accidents in its preliminary online reports, including fatalities and drownings, because of privacy concerns. The change started at 3 p.m. on Friday and was applied retroactively to all published reports to date.
