The third annual Whiskey and Bourbon Fest, hosted by the Community Foundation of West Plains, took place on Friday at the Historic Post Office in downtown West Plains. The event brought together whiskey and bourbon enthusiasts for an evening of tastings, appetizers and community support in a fundraiser for the foundation.

Officials with the Lincoln School Project announced Monday the historic schoolhouse-turned-community center has received a $10,000 Community Possible grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation. The hefty contribution will further the project's mission to preserve the historic Lincoln School and provide vital arts, culture and educational programming to the community, said officials.

The West Plains Police Department has announced an investigation into an alleged homicide that occurred at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Columbus Street. Officers reportedly arrived on the scene after hearing several gunshots while they were at a nearby location on Jackson Street to find a 48-year-old man that had been shot and was lying on the front porch of a home.

Board of Education Supreme Court decision to end racial segregation in U.S. schools.

The South Central Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 43 is again hosting its annual Shop With a Cop event and accepting donations cash donations in order to help make the Christmas season brighter for some families in Howell County. It will be the 30th year for the event, which typically benefits about 200 children from low-income families, with the support of local businesses and agencies.
